It's on
So - http://69.169.158.30/. SkyLords should be up and pointed shortly. I plan to let the end of month scripts handle the round as normal - or maybe just have a very short round. Thanks for your patience - this should stay pretty stable for quite some time. You are awesome.

PSU works, ISP pending
It was the power supply. Good news - the server is up, running, and stable (after sorting out a few OS updates... it's never trivial :) ). So - why isn't SkyLords online yet? ISP is taking some time. Normally I would have spent this weekend getting it up and running, but my new ISP (the ones I had before, back when you could still get password resets working from a hotmail account... about 1 year back). So, I did figure out why I couldn't fix the hotmail emails thing, but not quite what to do about it - in short they don't take emails from a Comcast customer. Anyway, long story short, they say (heh) that they should have me hooked up on Monday - we'll see, and if I can get everything else arranged. As I recall, I'll have to figure out how to configure a static IP address in Arch Linux again (they changed how it's done since a year ago), point a few DNS settings, and a lucky few of you may never see this post. Thank you again for keeping in touch

Parts in the mail, progress made
So, followed a guide online to verify that yes, the power supply is dead. Ordered a new one, so that's a step in the right direction. Also going to see about getting fiber + static ips at the new place. If you've never hosted a service without a static ip... I can't recommend self hosting in general really. Still too pessimistic to provide ETA, going to have to fix it if I can. I'll install the new power supply and let you know if the computer still boots. Thanks for waiting patiently, and thank you to the two who sent me written encouragement - made my day each time :).

Update - log-jammed
First, I apologize to all of you few who are still waiting for word from me and haven't wandered away already. Life is not an excuse any sysadmin should ever use. So - I've shortened my commute, I moved houses, and quite a bit has happened since my last post (unfortunately, little to bring SL back online). I moved, my parents and younger siblings visited from the other side of the planet, and my hard drives on my main computer - this one, started to fail. This all happened at approximately the same time as the SL server going down. Since then, my family is back home, I've established a basic living standard, and I've installed a pile of new hard drives into my computer. I've yet to get Linux up and running again, in part because Windows wiped out my bootloader, and in part... my hard drives, brand new, are failing... So, I'm struggling with my computer over that one. As I write this the SL data is sitting right next to me, waiting to be read by a linux machine and pushed live to all the world again. I've opened a dialog with the motherboard manufacturer now, and I'll see where things go from here - either way it probably means more downtime in the short term until I get everything sorted.
I'm sorry that I don't have any better news, but I'm even more sorry that I haven't managed to keep you aware of what was going on here in the desert. Thanks for being patient.

PS. you can reach me for whatever reason via email at support@skylords.com still. Once I have Linux is running again I'll have the usual gaggle of IM accounts running as well. Let me know if you have a preferred way to reach me which that doesn't cover and I'll see if I can configure it in a way that I can manage Facebook is out, I don't trust them, but Google+ or Twitter might be possible. One to many forms of communication like Usenet, mailing lists, or IRC are too difficult to manage as well. Anything I missed? Let's talk :).

Apache now runs on my computer. Mysql now runs on my computer. PHP now runs on my computer. Hmm... maybe I'm getting at something here ;).
Looking to put SL up asap. Currently need to pull the backups from their current home, transport them over to this server, and then make sure that everything is configured well.
I'll tell you this though - I am so very much more comfortable doing this than ever before - as I now do installation of or fully custom databases all day now :).
